LuxHyVal

LuxHyVal creates a flagship hydrogen valley in Luxembourg to boost hydrogen adoption in industry and mobility. It will produce 650 tons/year of certified green hydrogen, used in public transport and industrial processes. The project includes a digital twin to optimize operations and will be replicated in two follower valleys in Europe.

Executive summary:

LuxHyVal launches a flagship hydrogen valley in Luxembourg to accelerate hydrogen deployment through green hydrogen initiatives across the entire value chain—from local production to utilization, including storage and distribution for applications in industry and mobility, while also connecting with existing and planned infrastructures. Business models, regulatory frameworks, and commercial agreements are defined. Safe design and operation are ensured to deliver certified green hydrogen.

The project produces 650 tons/year of hydrogen, used across multiple end-use applications: mobility (public and private buses, light industrial vehicles) accounts for 69%, while industry (metal and glass manufacturing) accounts for 31%. Strong engagement from key commercial stakeholders across the value chain is ensured, alongside political support aligned with Luxembourg’s Hydrogen Strategy aimed at fully decarbonizing the industrial sector by 2030, supported by 80% co-funding from external sources.

LuxHyVal generates investments exceeding €38 million and delivers significant economic, social, environmental, and political impacts. A Digital Twin is provided for optimal planning and operation, supporting scalability and replication. Public awareness and workforce upskilling also generate social benefits. Finally, lessons learned and solutions are replicated in two follower valleys in Central (CZ) and Eastern Europe (UA). The consortium includes 19 partners from 7 countries (6 European plus Australia), covering the entire value chain.
